The Gusto story

It all began in 1992, when two university students, Eliodor Apostolescu and Catalin Nour, were searching for a business idea. They formed the company Phoenixy, and started out with a corner ice-cream stand, which was perfect for income generation during the Summer months.

The quest for year-round enterprise moved them in the direction of the corn puff snack concept. They purchased basic extruder machinery and Gusto was born.

The young entrepreneurs were quick to learn that corn puff manufacture is an art, which depends upon the ingredients and extrusion technology used. Both of these have been the subject of great innovation on the part of Phoenixy down the years, and are now protected by global patents. Both are key to the unique taste, texture and quality of Gusto corn puffs.

Phoenixy is now a world-class innovator of sophisticated extrusion technology, and over a million Gusto packs are manufactured at their headquarters in Baicoi, Romania – one of the largest factories in Europe – every day. Gusto meets the highest possible European standards for food safety and quality.*

Gusto has been a household name for families in Romania for more than a decade now, and holds 70% of the corn puff market. It is exported to 32 countries all over the world, a mark of its wide appeal. The Gusto range now makes its debut in the UK and Ireland, where there is every reason to believe it will be just as popular.

High quality, delicious taste, simple ingredients and unique proprietary extrusion technology are the basis of the success of the Gusto brand.
